Life in Istanbul is Cheap

“If the Earth were a single state, Istanbul would be its capital”

Napoleon Bonaparte

İstanbul is one of the biggest and most important cities of the World due to its history (capital of 3 Empires: Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman); its geopolitically strategic location (unifying Asian and European continents through Bosphorus as well as Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea); unique and epic lifestyle (modern but conservative somehow; joy of four seasons in a year); large and diversified population (officially 16 million, most probably 22+ millions unofficially). Istanbul’s status of big and global city cannot be questioned.

There are great advantages to living in big cities: career opportunities, entertainment and culture as well as public transportation. But big cities come with disadvantages too: higher population, less personal space and higher costs of living.

According to a study comparing the quality of life in different cities of the world with the cost of this level of quality which resulted as above, İstanbul is placed above “fair line” meaning that life in Istanbul is cheap compared to what you get.

In a nutshell, the high cost of life in Istanbul is no longer a disadvantage of a big city. Life in Istanbul is cheaper compared to its level of quality even though it is a city of millennials.
